I still remember Hurricane Andrew like it was yesterday. The hurricane came on the eve of my birthday in 1992 and tore down trees, buildings, and lights as it were made of paper. After the storm, darkness crept into the city for over three weeks. The worst part had just begun. There was looting, fighting, and violence perpetuating through the city. It was hard to stay safe. Isaiah 34 describes dark days of judgment to come against all the nations. May your heart be drawn to the Lord as you read along. The Lord’s indignation is against all the nations. This movement of judgment has been evident since chapter 31 and now it will be full. God’s wrath will come against wickedness, sin, and unrighteousness. Those who pursue the greatest evil will see His wrath. “All the host of heaven will wear away, and the sky will be rolled up like a scroll…” (v.4a) This verse will be repeated in Revelations 6:12-14 as the end of days explained by John. Specifically, Isaiah targets Edom in the next few verses. Edom as you recall comes from Esau, Jacob’s brother. While Judah and Israel was attacked and fallen, Edom celebrated at their demise. But there will be judgment upon Edom. They also will pay a price for their alliance with other nations against Israel: “For the Lord has a day of vengeance a year of recompense for the cause of Zion.” (v.8) Their land will be transformed from a mighty city to a land desolate. It will be a land where only animals will dwell (e.g. pelican, hedgehog, owl, raven, jackals, ostriches, snakes—vv.10-15). So, the nations are called to “seek” from the book of the Lord. Be mindful of the things to come: “Pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass and to stand before the Son of Man.” (Luke 21:36) In the mid-90s “DC Talk” a Christian band came up with a song with this catchy chorus, “People get ready, Jesus is coming, and soon we’ll be going home…” So, I ask you, are you ready? There will be a day, whether you believe it or not, the world will end. Scripture delights in its perfect prophetic utterances. All that has been said has come to past. Prophesies are still be fulfilled today. You must stand ready. Christ has issued an olive branch through His death and resurrection on the cross. He has reconciled you to God. If you haven’t given your life to Christ, then you must. Be convicted of your sin, confess (repent), and come to the cross. #godlylegacy If men will not understand the meaning of judgment, they will never come to understand the meaning of grace. -Sayers
