I stole this picture from the BBC page , as they had no information about this historic event they do not deserve it any way . The picture was taken at the Quiggins Rope Works on the Isle Of Man , the event being an elimination race to find competitors for the International Motorcycle Cup of 1905 , I have tryd to ID as many of the heads in this photo as I can . Starting on the left and standing with his Ariel is JS Campbell , who was the event winner , the guy behind the man in the bowler hat is Billy Wells standing with an accumulator in his hand , between the two smokers is the face of Charlie Collier with Rignold his left hand smoker , The man in the cap with his hand behind his back is HH Collier , father to Charlie and Harry Collier who is standing with his hand on his lapel before the arch opening , bang smack in the middle of the arch holding his JAP bike is Charles B Franklin , the other bike holder far right is WH Hodgkinson, JAP . siting on the ground next to Rignolds JAP #5 is GA Barnes , with elbow on knee and sitting under Father Collier is G Wilton . All these men gave birth to the greatest Road Race in the world , the IOM TT . What I am looking for from this 1905 event is GA Barnses bike # 15 , which was a monster V twin of 1387.96 cc ( 94 X 100 ) .
