I stopped at a rest park on my trip home today. Im very careful about where I stop when I travel/drive alone and I wont stop unless it meets all my safety criteria. Today, a man approached me as I got out of the car to say he had run out of gas and needed help - a ride specifically about an hour north. There were a dozen people standing within a few feet of me, watching and listening. I told the guy no, but suggested he use the pay phone in the lobby. He said no, he just needed a ride. Did he think I was stupid? I hate to refuse help to someone in need, but did he seriously think any intelligent woman travelling alone would give him a ride?! Why didnt he use the phone? The next man (who was also alone) offered to let him use his cell and he said no again. Something about the whole deal gave me the creeps.
