I stopped in CyclistChoice ( cyclistchoice.net) bike shop in Gulfport this morning and asked if I could use their floor pump to top off my tires as I was leaving town. I tried to see if there was any curiosity on their part to see if I could lead into the story about my trip. I asked the guy a leading question, Bet you dont see a lot of bikes like this going by..? His response, Oh yeah, we see guys like you loaded down with all their junk all the time. and he turned away. It took me till this evening to snap... Really, the bike shops down here see 66 year old guys with artificial hips and other metal parts going by on $1,500.00 vintage frames with 24K goldplated forks and $500.00 wheelsets, $500.00 custom panniers, airhorns, 5 watt-900 lumen dive lights, $165.00 leather saddles, 28 year old vintage components in new condition wearing Tour de Cure shirts and caps? Really? Wow, I must be doing something wrong out here. Im not seeing all these other old guys.
