I strongly oppose President Obamas unilateral action on immigration. The American people spoke earlier this month and elected a new Congress, whose responsibility it is to update and alter our nation’s laws. The president’s decision to go it alone flies in the face of the election results and the will of the people. There is no doubt our immigration system is broken, but the president’s efforts will not address our most pressing needs. House Republicans put forward a strategy based on three key principles: establishing a safe and secure border, enforcing immigration laws efficiently and effectively, and reforming our system to attract talented and hardworking individuals who are striving to make better lives for themselves. Congress and the American people firmly believe this process should go through regular order, and the presidents actions hamper our ability to achieve meaningful solutions to our immigration problems.
