I strongly support Tom after working with him on the 2010 State Platform Committee and hope you will too! Fellow State Committeemen, State Committeewomen, and County Chairs: First of all I would like to wish one and all a belated Happy New Year. Due to time constraints and my being unable to make a timely personal appearance at each of your county Republican Party meetings, I would like to introduce myself via this email. My apology for the informal introduction. My name is Thomas L. Reynolds Sr. I am a retired from Boeing as a Tech Fellow/Manager, after 30 years of service. I live in Klickitat County where I have been active in local elections and politics for the past 5 years. I was recently re-elected, both as our county Republican State Committeeman and as the Trout Lake PCO. I have attached a short bio that provides a synopsis of personal information on my professional work career, my family and political activities over the past few years to facilitate this introduction. With encouragement and support from other State Committee members, I have consented to become a candidate for the position of WSRP Vice Chairman at the January 16-17 state committee meeting in Skamania County. As a candidate, I would therefore welcome your support and your vote in this election. Some of you may be familiar with my on-going state wide efforts, via emails, to inform WSRP Committee Members and our Republican legislators on critical issues such as: · State and federal legislative matters · Obamacare mandates · Terrorism · The deficit economy and the ever growing national debt · The activities of the Convention of States and the American Lands Council · WA I-594, and the ongoing threats to our Constitutional Rights. There are number of issues that I believe should be addressed by the State Committee in the coming months and recommended for support to the WSRP. The list below is not an all-inclusive as I am sure each of you could create or already have your own list of concerns and suggestions. 1. I am very concerned with the way our county, state and national GOP has been functioning, seemingly dysfunctional at times, by attacking each other rather than getting behind and supporting the most qualified candidates. It concerns me that the some in the GOP, along with the Media, consistently attack qualified and popular Republican candidates, while endorsing marginal candidates. This will dilute the Republican vote and discourage the very candidates we need from running in the long run and lessen the chance of a GOP win. Once a strong GOP candidate emerges, the media and liberal branch of the WSRP will attack them along the with Democrats to support their “chosen” candidate. I believe the success of the Republicans in the November elections was due more to the voting public’s disgust with the failed policies of the Obama Administration, rather than with a GOP strategy. I think there are far too few voters who have been happy with the Republican controlled House of Representatives. If we, the GOP insist on goals to be victorious in 2016, we need rethink what is important for a winning strategy, and embrace our fellow Republicans. The democratic party collectively supports their chosen candidate in mass which is a policy the republicans should learn if we want to elect Republican candidates. We cannot win if divided by slight differences. Our nation has always been best served by policies that promote free enterprise rather than by the Democrat’s centralized large government agenda. 2. In the coming year I believe the WSRP should support and encourage challenging the unconstitutional aspect of the I-594 bill that was passed in the Nov elections. County Sheriffs and Prosecutors around the state are refusing to enforce this bill. Some of our conservative state legislators are supporting the “I Will Not Comply” movement, as seen in last month’s protest and demonstration in Olympia. I believe that it is important for all to be concerned with this assault on our 2nd Amendment and Article I, Sec 24 of our WA Constitution. This measure was bought, paid for and promoted by an extreme amount liberal money dedicated to social engineering. The 2nd Amendment is just the start, it is the entire Constitution, the very basis of the law of the land, that is at risk. 3. The Convention of States (COS), which first met in December of 2013 was established to explore and develop interest among the states to respond to the excesses of the Obama administration’s out of control spending on social welfare programs, Obamacare, failed green energy programs, etc. The Convention of State Legislatures, now represented by 33 states, has met (3 times) to discuss the states mutual concerns with the ever growing national debt and annual deficit budgets. The US Constitution gives the power to the state’s legislatures options under Article V to initiate remedies for egregious acts by the government. The COS has established and maintains a strict rule of participation, limited to currently serving state legislators. No outside organizations or individuals are allowed to be involved in any way. I would like to see a WSRP Resolution to task each of our 39 county Republican parties to encourage and support their State Senators to send a delegation to the next meeting of the COS. With the new Republicans in the majority in the WA Senate, I would expect that there would be support for efforts of the COS. 4. The Washington Top Two Primary Initiative, also known as Initiative 872, was voter approved on the November 2, 2004 ballot. The measure changed the way that partisan primary and general elections in Washington are conducted by replacing the system of separate primaries for each party with a system in which all candidates for each partisan office appear together on the primary ballot. Candidates are permitted to express a party preference, declare themselves independents or non-affiliated, and their preference or status appears on the ballots. As a result of this legislation, for example, in heavily populated democratic regions, such as the Puget Sound basin, it has proved difficult for a Republican candidate to advance beyond the primary elections. With a majority of democratic voters, the “Top Two” primary winners are usually democrats. This bias allows an imbalance in the selection of legislators favoring democrats, passage of bills and Initiatives (like I-594). I would like to see the WSRP investigate, initiate and support efforts to challenge this bias in our voting and candidate selection process by repeal. 5. One area we have been working in our Klickitat County party is to involve and encourage all the other county parties in our legislative district to organize into a representative advisory group, whose purpose is to provide our Congressional representative with guidance and their constituent’s perspective on issues of importance to our state and legislative district. I would encourage all our county Republican Parties should consider forming their own legislative district “advisory” groups to advise their respective legislators on matters of concern and to remind our elected legislators on occasion, if necessary, that they work on our behalf, not the beltway lobbyists and special interests. I believe these committees would garner more of the legislator’s attention on the districts they represent. Your vote and support for my candidacy as your WSRP Vice Chair would be greatly appreciated. Tom Reynolds Klickitat County Republican Party State Committeeman Trout Lake PCO 509-395-9309
