I stumbled across EDM when my roommate brought home a promo CD from a resident DJ in Las Vegas that played in one of our local bars. I was a bar rat at the time and consumed top 40 club hits which were heavily rap influenced. The MIX CD was the best music I had ever heard. I must have listened to it for like 3 months straight before I started actively searching for my own collection. I became addicted, I was spending on average about 2 hours every day downloading and cataloging all of it. I listened to all the time. I even made a playlist for when I was sleeping. My love for EDM grew for quite a while with no exposure to rave culture itself. I knew what a rave was, and had seen videos on the internet. But we didn’t have any around where I lived. It was all house parties and bars. One day a Friend told me he knew where one was and asked if I wanted to go. I jumped on the opportunity, I had been waiting for so long and it was finally here. I can still remember the excitement of walking up to it. It was out in the country. The crazy thing was it just so happened to be about a half mile from where I grew up and was directly across from the fire station where I first started working. There was 2 stages one was in an old barn and one was back in a valley. You could see the lasers from all the dust people were kicking up while they danced. Everyone was dressed up in vibrant and creative outfits. The people I talked to were all super nice and treated me like we were old friends. I instantly knew this is what I had been searching for my whole life. I tried to exchange numbers with as many people as I could while I was there. Picking peoples brains about when and where there would be more and how I would find out about them. From that point on I have felt a burning passion for EDM Culture and immersed myself in as many aspects as I could. I wanted to know everything. I wanted to be a part of everything. And eventually this led to me wanting to contribute to the improvement of the culture.
