I support Human Rights in Childbirth because it is unethical for the risks of multiple repeat cesarean sections to be imposed upon women per hospital policy. In fact, 43% of American hospitals have vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) bans meaning that women are lead to believe that once they are pregnant after a cesarean, they can only have a repeat cesarean at that facility. We can look to the state of California where only 9% of women with a prior cesarean have a VBAC to see the long term implications of these hospital policies: In California, we are seeing a lot of hysterectomies, accretas, and significant blood loss due to multiple prior cesareans. Probably the biggest risk of the first cesarean is the repeat cesarean. - Dr Elliott Main. Many hospitals do not have the proper resources to adequately treat a surprise placenta accreta. Do hospitals consider this when they establish VBAC bans? (Hermine Hayes-Klein)
