I supported and still support the Ferguson Grand Jury acquittal. But in this case in NYC, it seems virtually impossible to believe the police officer shouldnt be indicted for murder or at least some lesser violent felony. As youll see here, even Fox News wont defend this police officer and 99% of the comments I read are from people, mostly who I assume are conservative, who are outraged about the acquittal in this case. Either theres some serious information yet to be released about this guy severely resisting arrest or this mans death is as tragic as it appears to be. I know the guy has a long rap sheet, but he was only trying to sell cigarettes illegally, apparently to help support his family. And at least half of the 24 grand jurors were minorities, many of whom were African American. That makes the grand jury decision not to indict based on the apparent facts of this case all the more mind boggling. Though I was too young to remember Vietnam, it is very sad that this country appears as angry and divided as I can ever remember in my lifetime. It is sad that our country cannot useem to come to come to a peaceful and clear consensus regarding what occurs that is right or wrong, criminal in nature or a corrupt violation of our rights among the actions of private citizens, police departments and the criminal justice system nationwide. I hope we can someday have peace and equal treatment and people will be able to mostly agree and recognize the distinction of when the police are protecting us and when they are completely out of line and kill perhaps not the completely innocent, but someone who clearly still deserves to live and have his or her day in court. Right now this country seems bleakly fractured, afraid, and defeated on all sides of the political spectrum.
