I suppose posting here is as good as anywhere else. Looking for help from anyone with any knowledge of establishing a business in economic free zones like the Bahamas... I’m hoping someone can help with my particular issue: I’m in the very early stages of building an internet startup (we’re at the end of “discovery phase”), and I’d like to avoid the tax consequences of the US, so I’ve been looking at the Cayman Islands and the Bahamas—the typical [relatively] economic free zones. So, the bad news is I know little to nothing about both starting a S corporation in a foreign country (especially without being a “citizen”). The good news is I believe once we are prepared to show our idea to lenders (looking for a loan rather than an angel), I’m confident we will be funded (hey hey) and will find plenty of help in this fashion. The primary question is what sort of lenders should we be pursuing? Should we be looking at Venture banks? I live in the San Fran bay area (shoot me). I know there are some great VCs out here (Sequoia, etc), but should we be focusing on a certain type of lender that can help us with what we need for our purposes? For example “Silicon Valley Bank” stands out as a bank that offers specific help to international businesses that seem to be worth their salt. Also, if there is anyone that has information or good resources they would like to pass our way with regards to establishing a business in a foreign country, I’m all ears. Thanks so much. Cheers, Nick
