I suppose the question now is Will the Sea Shepherd return to Hobart for its Council approved Civic Reception? In approx 3 hrs I will present a Motion to rescind Councils decision to waste ratepayer funds on this Civic Reception. I hope the Lord Mayor changes his mind and realizes that all ships are welcome (like the Cruise Ship this morning) to Hobart providing they are not carrying dangerous and illegal goods, and have not committed acts of crime or piracy on the seas. Thank you to the gentleman who sent me this email this morning. It sums it up. Alderman, you have just welcomed a cruise ship bringing thousands of tourists to Hobart with resultant benefits to our community. But our “show pony” Lord Mayor with his green colleagues is proposing to spend my ratepayer money on a ship that flies the pirate flag, has no respect for the laws of the sea and was prepared to sink one of it’s own vessels for a publicity stunt. Southern Ocean whaling has now ceased, not because of the terror tactics of Sea Shepherd but through the application of international law. I hope you can persuade your fellow aldermen that this civic stunt does not enhance the image of the city port of Hobart outside green circles. Regards B F, South Hobart
