I suppose this spot is as good as any, I will be as brief as possible with my most significant experience with this phenomenon.. I believe it was around winter of 2013, I was living in Orange, CA with my girlfriend at the time and I had woken up around 3 or 4 am with my back to the wider, open area of the bedroom. I began shifting my position to change the side I was laying on when I noticed that it was extremely difficult to move. As i finally managed to get from my right side onto my back, using every ounce of strength in me, i could see a figure out of my left-side peripheral vision accompanied by a very disturbing breathing that sounded as if it came from a large man wearing a painters mask. The sound permeated, so it seemed, throughout the entire room and appeared to be emanating from whatever was in the room with me. I once again mustered all my strength to turn my neck to the left and what i saw was a giant column of what looked like black static stretching from the floor to the ceiling (about 9-10 ft or so in length) that was expanding and contracting in unison with the sound of the breathing. I was petrified. I knew that I was awake and that it probably wasnt real but I was nevertheless terrified beyond all reason. In short, i figured the only way to defeat this thing was to ignore it, or otherwise stop giving it my attention. I managed to turn back onto the side which was opposite the entity and give control back over to the unconscious realm and fall asleep once again. I did and woke up shortly after and stayed awake the remainder of the day.
