I surely remember the popcorn at the Sears store on San Carlos. My uncles store was across the street Gordon & Silva Appliances. My fathers business was downtown San Jose 4th and San Fernando across from the old SJS library and Brem Brothers Hamburgers. I am a 4th Generation Santa Clara Valley resident. My grandfather owned San Jose Box Mill on Park Ave and was born in his fathers home on Meridian @ San Carlos next door to Emas Saloon which faced the old Oconners Hospital where the Sear Store was built. My mother was head surgical nurse at the Old Oconners as was her mother. Mom graduated from SJS college nursing school. I remember when Leigh Ave was 1 mile long and only about 1.5 lanes wide with orchards and trees that shaded Leigh Ave. Our home was built in 1939 where I was born a few years later. Leigh dead ended with a Y to get onto Dry Creek Road. There were head on collisions at least once a month on that why because in was one lane and a blind curve. My father used to fish out of Dry Creek before it was dry. :-) I could go on forever but Im sure I have lost most of you already, it was certainly a wonderful place to grow up and have a career in Silicon Valley. Perfect timing on my parents part.
