I swam over to the Big Rock today, about 500 feet, doing the crawl (freestyle) all the way with Maggie at my side and my friend Kim and Maggies brother Reilly swimming about 100 feet farther and still beating us to the rock. She always does because she even swims in the winter and is in good shape. We dont race. The water is lovely and cold, so we sit in the sun and talk about everything. This was my first swim of the year and I was quite proud that I could swim the whole way without stopping. Kim brings a ball for Reilly, but he lets Maggie get it most of the time. I like to grab it and pull it under water to get that puzzled look on both their faces... Whered it go? Whered it go? Coming back Maggie swam about 100 feet and then abandoned me for running along the shore. I swam and hauled our water supply hose out into the lake and then Bob hooked it up, with my help, and primed it and we now have water to wash dishes in. Makes a big difference! I cut up 3 ripe mangoes I brought up from Florida and threw in a pint of blueberries as my contribution to the big get-together meal Sunday night over on the porch of my mothers cabin. Our whole family came and Kims whole family, and the Waters and the Norths and the Suttons. It was great. The best potato salad in the world is made by Marshall Sutton who is in his 90s. His daughter Lisa has to chop the stuff for him now but he mixes it. I would like to marry that man just for his potato salad. For that matter, I would marry Kim just for the baby beets and beet greens she made. Obviously, I like good food. I also went through a trunk full of books that belonged to my mother and am giving some to the Friends of the Library sale and sending a couple of my mothers old medical books to one of the young women at the party who is applying to medical school and working for a doctor now. When she was a little girl, my mother liked her and her sisters a lot. Mother delighted in kids. Feeling almost rested up from the trip.
