I take a lot of flack and some flat out slander and bullying for not `working with certain privileged whites here in Duluth. I feel certain these rumors were planted by them, but in any case, there is a cluster of (white, mostly privileged but a few who arent financially comfortable are included) people for whom `work with means that those they consider less than, like me, are their unpaid servants - they dont want to help in any way they want to set and control the agenda, to dictate what is ok (acceptable to the dominant culture). That is not working with, that is working for, and not just working for, but being a slave to, as they offer no pay and only a one way `relationship of subservience. This article really helped me get why this is so entrenched in Duluths non-profit industrial complex.
