I tend to be remarkably close-minded in my opinion on this. (added for clarity: I believe that biological destiny should not trump opportunity for either gender, and that the only way to accomplish this is the now-defunct welfare state. If we want reproductive equality, it can only come from the realization that we as human beings must provide the fairness that biology does not). If you believe in compulsory male parental responsibility, then you privilege the rapist as much as the honest man. If you dont believe men have some responsibility, it gets complicated: you either want to punish single women, or you support the rebuilding a robust social safety net. Me, I support the social safety net. I also support reproductive rights and the repeal of the Hyde and Stupak Amendments. The idea that someone can be compelled to be a parent and not have it be a horrible thing for everyone involved is absurd to me.
