I think I figured out why this season so far to me just doesnt seem right... I think I am suffering from Martin Brodeur PTSD. For 20 years weve watched him play and he was a magical goalie. He had saves coming in places that no normal person should be able to achieve. Legs flying around that would send pucks flying away from the net... Catch gloves snagging pucks at blinding speed. Leaving us fans to only believe that he must be some mythical being sent here to guard our crease. I mean until recently he never got injured either! The guy played 70 games a season some years and was like lets do it again! Other well known goalies went down left and right with injuries but Marty just kept chugging along. And then it all stopped. The magic was taken away from us. Lou traded for Corey and at that moment we knew Martys days were numbered. Now hes gone and we are left with a goalie. A good goalie - but not a magical one. We all expect the saves that Marty put out on a nightly basis out of Corey Schneider because we forget that Corey isnt magical. Weve been trained for 20 years to expect magical goaltending. Well its been that way for 20 years so all starting goalies for the Devils must be magicians right? Well... Not so much we are finding. Even if the rest of the team totally blew it... We always knew Marty was back there... But now he and his abilities are gone and I think I and a lot of other people are really having a hard time adjusting to it. I know I am. I think thats why when watching a game and Corey lets one in (or 6?) Im just baffled. Im like Wait! No! Why?! Marty would have gotten that one... It will take time but we all have to adjust to a human being playing goal for us now and not a magical goalie. Long live #30.
