I think I have just read the most heart-breaking post on here yet: please read Vanessas comment after the Simon Baron-Cohen letter. It illustrates very well how anti ABA ideology is breaking up a family, and costing taxpayers more than double the ABA school where he was thriving. A so-called outstanding eclectic provision has failed him and he is now being sent to costly residential. This is wrong, if any press are on here. He is all our sons. Jane There is such a focus on ABA for early intervention. My son was forced by Wandsworth at age 11, to leave his Aba vb school for an eclectic secondary school and not only has learned nothing in his three years there but has seriously regressed. Aba vb is not just an early intervention. We must move away from this notion. Also there is so much prejudice against Aba. An education campaign is needed to distinguish between Aba and Aba vb. And to quash the ignorance out there about Aba. I can bearly bear to relate it Jane as it breaks my heart and I feel I failed my son because I wasnt able to keep in in the environment where he was learning. The new school lied and claimed he was making great progress and if we had gone back to tribunal they would have said whatever they needed to to win. Including that Rainbow had his P levels (which dropped dramatically) too high. When I challenged them in this they said that they are the benchmark P level setters for the borough so what they say goes. The establishment seems to mistrust Aba. He was assigned an ed psych who hates Aba. They all think its like training monkeys. They really havnt a clue that its actually tapping into the way these kids learn. Something these maintained special schools have no clue about. Am away at the moment but when back will put together an abbreviated version if how my son was robbed of all his language by being forced to change school by a tribunal panel who believed the lies they were being fed. He is a victim of politics. Its not even funding because Wandsworth have just signed off to send him to a residential school that costs twice as much as the independent Aba vb school we would give our right arms to get him back to. Thanks for your interest Jane. X
