I think Ive found the perfect unofficial opening theme for West Coast Wednesdays: youtu.be/F-t8PngHgWY Judging by the looney group of friends that permeate our community, I think the shoe fits. Of course, I would never (*wink, wink, nudge, nudge*) ever include myself as looney. But no one would buy that, so Ill lump myself in--just because I am that nice of a guy. :) And the rest of that looney group? Well, this week it included: - Maybe the only not looney person at Galway on Wednesday, Gary Ulaner, who taught two lessons and brought some New York/Northeast flavor to West Coast Swing; Gary and his fiancee Alena Mishchenko also did a lovely demo midway through the evening; - The definitely looney April Prince spinning a handful of new tunes fresh from her stint at the U.S. Open; - Looney antics including Scott Mehlberg and Clayton Gilbert dancing together with an ending that included what can best be described as a Scott-o-saurs roar; - A looney Christmas tree that didnt get in the way of Carmen showing us how only he can do it--dancing with two lovely ladies: his wife Rosa Passi and the newly-transplanted-to-Chicago Elissa Gutterman; - South side looniness (is that even a word?) from the mother-daughter tandem of Lynzi Scholz and Belle. You want silly? These are two who are infectiously silly both on and off the dance floor; - The always-looney cast of friends who pretty much defined looney these past few years, among them: Raymond Ritter, Diane Smith, Pamela Salotti, Julie Hein; - Maybe the only non-looney moment of the evening (outside of lessons) when Clayton and Brian Arvans helped put together the dance for the evening; - And finally...the looney group of friends that came out last night. Yes, you are looney. But thats good. Looney is a badge of honor in this community that I hope you all wear well. That include you: Tony, Jeff, Rose, Allison, Mary, Michelle, Benny, Monika, Nicole, Jennifer, Kristy, Rodney, Laura, Michael, Nancy, Wayne, Jocelyn, Katie, Tim, Bridget, Greg, Roxanne, Joy, Shelby, Jenna, Oana, Anna, Joyce, Paul, Les, Christine, Abhi, Kathleen, Shimpei, Sarahmaria, Beverly, Judy, Valya, Ed, Bill...and Im drawing blanks on at least 10 - 15 people so my apologies for not being able to name everyone individually.
