I think Jodi representing herself is part of her wanting to have a say during jury selection, and no more. Theres really no other reason I can think of that would make logical sense (not that Ive seen much evidence that Jodi tends to stick to a logical path). Im willing to bet well see her revert back to her attorneys as soon as jury selection is complete. But this speaks to a larger issue with Jodi, and thats her narcissism. If supporters are writing to her and saying things like Jodi you are so much smarter than Juan Martinez With your high IQ, you should be a lawyer Its too bad you didnt represent yourself during the first half of your trial, you would have easily swayed the jury and showed the jury what a lying bully Juan was I bet the jury thought you were one of the attorneys when they first saw you. Youre so professional looking and so well-spoken You should totally defend yourself, you have thousands of supporters who are on your side. Nancy Grace and HLN are only showcasing haters, not the thousands of us who love you Jodi you are slowly winning over haters. The hater numbers are at an all time low. Your supporters numbers are going through the roof. You are more loved and supporters than ever! People are starting to wake up to the antics of Juan Martinez and how you were railroaded. You are making history because you a symbol for all women abused by men, and now abused by the system. You are a hero for all women for your grace and humility in the face of such adversity. You are the Joan of Arc of our time! I put these statement in quotes to make it easier to read, these are the types of statements Ive seen thrown around the past year and a half. I hope supporters are sitting up and taking notice. This is NOT a good day for Jodi Arias. Please listen to non-supporters--we better represent the type of people who will sit on that jury. If we think this is a dumb idea, then it the jury will like think the same thing. If Jodi hoped to avoid a circus-like atmosphere, well you can forget about that now, it just got ramped up to the 9th degree. I hope supporters also see this latest ploy as indicative of Jodi personality disorder--the same personality disorder they find so charming and which ended up killing Travis Alexander. I guarantee Nurmi and Willmott are not on board with this, but their hands are tied. Jodi is uneducated, and has no background in law. Would you want someone like her acting as an attorney if youre loved ones life was on the line? Much has been said by supporters of Dr. De Martes relatively short stint working in the mental health field (I think she had about 5 years after a half dozen or more years of intensive schooling). Supporters jeered and called her Tot Doc and dismissed her education and training. Jodi has neither the education nor training to act in any capacity as a death penalty qualified attorney. NONE! Truth be told, Jodi couldnt even secure a position as a bailiff in a court of law with a GED,let alone represent herself. There were several instances during the trial where you can see Jodi nudging Willmott to object to something or other, and Willmott declined. Theres a reason for that. Willmott is playing a long game, Jodi is playing a short game. Willmott knows if she objects to certain testimony or evidence, it just highlights it to the jury, particularly if the objection is overruled. Jodi may have taken on the Walmart expert on cross, whereas Nurmi astutely passed on cross examining her because he couldnt get her off the stand fast enough. Anything he would have asked her about, would have highlighted Jodis lies. Nurmi was never ever going to rehabilitate that testimony, and he had to hope the jury would forget about it. Thats the beauty of having a team who knows how to play the game. They know when to act, when to re-act and when to hope the jury forgets or doesnt place a lot of weight on damaging testimony. This is a travesty. Jodi may be the first person in the history of jurisprudence who defended herself and put herself on death row.
