I think a good Facebook rule would be: If youve never, ever, not even once, ever, at any point, ever, mentioned being a fan of a particular celebrity on social media prior to their passing, you simply arent allowed to express sadness on social media after they, in the words of the Beastie Boys, kick it. If you are found guilty of doing this, you should be forced to have a Facebook background that says I shamelessly exploit dead celebrities for likes and am basically a terrible person... not like Hitler bad but somewhere in the Stalin/Saddam/Kanye realm. Id go so far as to say it should be a social media commandment, right up there with Thou shalt not foolishly contribute to threads asking to name an animal that doesnt contain the letter C, and Thou shalt not consider websites with names like banislam and truthseekers and sunnewsnetwork.ca as legitimate sources of information. Everyone is so worried about polluting lakes and rivers and air and stuff... no one ever talks about the very legitimate threat to our way of life that is Facebook newsfeed pollution. Hopefully now, the healing can begin.
