I think a huge amount of our problems stem from the fact that we are all two very different kinds of mice: city and country. Im a city mouse… I like cities. I like diversity. I am in no way tided to the land. The suns rising and setting doesnt bear that great a bearing on my day-to-day conduct (for better or for worse). The moon, the seasons, harvest, sowing, all of it… are distant, slightly-foreign concepts to me--as I order my cheese omelet at a diner, next to the theater where I teach improv actors how to write skits. I am, to say the least, out of touch with both the land and my animal-ness. And, at the risk of offending my atheist and agnostic friends, I do believe in God, but he/she is a God of tolerance, innovation, and of fairness… a God of love with virtually no consequences, save for the ones I construct myself from my own lying, cheating and stealing. My Republican cat, Gingy has a completely different world view. His God is huge; hes everywhere. And he keeps score and he knows if youve been bad or good, etc… Both are ways of getting through the night. Both are probably wrong. The different takes on this unfathomable concept is certainly not worth killing each of over (or even arguing), but I think a huge amount of anger and resentment come from these different ways of attempting to figure things out. All I know for certain is… no sporting event should have to cost 51 billion dollars. Thats just wrong…
