I think a much deserved Shoutout is in order here. I am not sure I can find the words to put into perspective how incredible the St. Marys Tigers 2014 season really was. Here is a team that got the absolute MOST out of EACH and every player on the team. Team...sometimes that words get thrown around to loosely bc with some you just have a bunch of individuals but happen to wear the same jersey. But the St. Marys Tigers truly fit the definition of Team. No one player thought he was bigger than that SMH on the helmet. Each player on this team was willing to make the sacrifices that it takes to become Elite. Tonight is just a microcosm, despite the final result, of what this team was all about. Despite injuries to District MVP Hunter Bedgood and District Defensive Player of the Year Josh Lucky, both guys REFUSED to quit on the team and left their heart, their soul, their guts on the field at Ouachita. If this team is not the very definition of a feel good story then there is no such thing. Let me start with the seniors as I offer just a few personal messages for whatever they are worth. Bedgood, Man it has truly been a privilege to watch you play for this team and all the hard work and dedication that you put into this game has paid off as much as anyone in the state of Louisiana. You are the kind of guy that when your football career is over (I would be willing to bet you go at least four more years though my friend), you will make one HELL of a football coach as you can teach players to play with the same resilience you do. Tyler McCain, I really dont think I have met a kid that was as respectful and even keel as you at the age of 18. Even keel. exactly what any coach is looking for in a quarterback. From the day i met you as an 8th grader and watched you swing a baseball bat, figured you were somebody to watch. Your future couldnt be any brighter. Ty Barbour, I really just got a chance this year to really meet you. But i can truly say it was a privilege and after sitting down for the interview with you earlier this year, I immediately became a fan. A kid that is as humble as you but yet as tough as nails on the football field. Garrison Friedel, what a remarkable story despite the injury. If anybody had a reason to hang their head and get depressed, it was you. But you have not only kept your head up, but made sure that you stay involved with the team and helped in anyway that you can on the sideline. The Navy is going to be DAMN lucky to have you!! Matthew Chambliss, talk about being the ULTIMATE team player. Man, no matter how much playing time you get, you seem to get nothing but praise from your teammates and coaches about how hard you work and what a good guy you are to have around. Joseph Thibodaux, man lol i have ever been more entertained than the interview with you and Cade....hahaha. The kind of guy that every locker room needs. Somebody to help loosen things up. The kind of guy that five years from now when you are OF AGE lol, I would love to sit down with and have (sorry parents) but just have a beer with lol. Tyler Ward, terrific story and outstanding young man. I know how tough your junior year was and having to miss the last 7 games with a broken leg. What a difference a year makes though huh? All District offensive lineman your senior year and you along with Thibodaux being the anchors to one of the best offensive lines around. If that whole experience isnt a great character builder......Goodluck to you....btw, Gabe Ward, all your college football picks for the playoff are done lol..... The juniors, since you guys will be back and leading this team next year, no reason for me to say goodbye.Josh Lucky, Drake Hale, Garrett Vienne, Ryan Cunningham, Michael Leone, Cade and Cody Woodard and the rest of the juniors....Keep this training rolling for the 2015 Tigers. Oh and Lucky....ANY DAY you want, i challenge you to a rematch on the golf course....I will not spend the rest of my life knowing I got hustled by (at the time) a 10 year old lol..... Congratulation to The Tigers and all the parents and fans that supported this team so loyally through out the year. Have a safe trip home.
