I think as a rescuer/repurposer this is probably, without a doubt.. my greatest fear. When we say time is of the essence or no tirekickers we mean it. I still have no rhyme or reason for why one horse turns out to be more wanted than another. I have no reason why people arent more interested in helping horses before they end up in bad spots. TAS has a whole barn full of lovely rehabbed horses who were once in a bad place, but now that they are safe no one worries with them. I get the immediacy, the emotion, the feeling of the save. But what I hope people understand is that to be successful, to help the most number of horses, we need to place the safe ones so we can open up a spot for another one in need. Rehabbing, reconnecting and rescuing some of these horses is not for everyone. So its crucial people let the ones who are good at that part of the rehab and eval process do it and then help not by filling up all those spots and forgetting them.. but by sharing and getting those horses adopted out as more manageable ones so the tougher ones have a place to go. So when we get a call we can immediately say, Yes right away without having to spend extra time, trying to finagle funds and a spot. Ideally, we would get to a place where we can be comfortable with our finances and space that we could always reserve a couple of emergency spots, while knowing we are moving horses on to new approved homes in reasonable timeframes. Empty spots still wont prevent human error but it would bring some peace of mind so we dont have to waste any extra time that we dont need to when having to decide if another life will be saved or lost. My heart goes out to Ricky and the so many other Morgans, Saddlebreds and other horses he represents whose stories dont get told. Telling it is the least you can do to honor them and their horrible end. #timeforchange
