I think it is important when forming an opinion to treat that opinion like you are A Builder building the framework for a house. First you need the cement, The cement is what is going to create your Foundation, You need good cement or you cant build on it. "You need solid evidence" Once you have the foundation poured comes the building of your house. " your opinion of the evidence" You always need to look at every angle of a situation in order to create your framework."Will it be Structurally sound?" You cant hear house and have one appear, just like you cant hear an opinion and instantly agree. You need to build your opinion, you need to always be open to different opinions. I look at this like building a house because you have your foundation to build on, You have your framing started and you are building your house "or opinion" but once your house is finished and built there are windows for new ideas, there is room for additions, and one day a storm or fire may come through and completely tear down your house. Always keep an open mind!
