I think it is interesting as I listen to men preach the message of Grace and freedom from the law that they exclude tithing which is under the law. I am a Grace Preacher, so I believe that the law was fulfulled and that we learn deep truths from it. The law is a school master that points us to Christ. I know all the OT scriptures on tithing, but lets start with everyones favorite. I know what the bible says about the storehouse but that was hundreds of years before church was mentioned. Do you think just maybe we have our own interests in mind as churches when we preach tithing. Jesus only mentioned tithing twice and both times in dealing with the Pharisees. The writer of Hebrews mentioned tithing regarding Abraham paying tithes, keeping the law. The New Testament does not teach tithing. The NT teaches giving and sowing. Giving to those who faithfully tread out the seed of Gods word and giving to those in need. In the New Testament, 100% of our income belongs to the Lord and we must pray and then listen to give faithfully. Unfortunately the church is manipulated by men to give the tithe, the only portion of the law, faithfully taught, in order to pay for buildings, ministry endeavors, salaries, etc... Think how much debt would be removed from peoples lives if we gave according to the NT and quit supporting the visions and goals of mens flesh. Also think of how many ministries would have to reevaluate whether what they are doing is for God or for themselves. I believe wholeheartedly in giving and giving all that the Lord says.
