I think it just dawned on me what the problem might be. Were in denial that there might be people from our group or sect that commit atrocities and acts of oppression. 9/11? Its a government conspiracy. Bin Laden must be a CIA agent. Yasser Arafat, Anwar Saddat, Hosni Mubarak, King of Jordan - theyre all puppets of the West. Bashar Assad is working with Israel. Al Shabbab - well, theyre Somali so noone cares other than the Somalis because were racist. Hizbullah in Syria? It was a Shiite conspiracy all along to take over the Muslim world. Saudi kingdom is a US corporation. Wahhabism is a zionist conspiracy to damage Islams reputation. Boku Haram in Nigeria are working with the West to undermine Islamic society. etc. etc. etc. In those 12 step addiction programs they always say denial is the first step towards healing and the cure. Some of these opinions that I mentioned above might be true, but notice all the blame shifting? We need to take responsibility for the crazies in our group and take care of the problems before the west or some other outside entity takes care of them for us. Are we happy with the way Iraq looks? Or Afghanistan? How about Nigeria, Libya, Somalia, and Syria? Theres nothing wrong with admitting that we have a crazy bastard in our family, but if we sit around living in denial, if we dont take care of him, our neighbors might bust down our door and destroy our property trying to get to him for the damage hes doing in the neighborhood. In the end we suffer because we wont stand up for whats right. We wont sacrifice, and we wont die for whats right. And this Shiite Sunni crap needs to stop. Cant you guys see that its just to divide us Muslims even further than were divided? If our educated scholars including Azhar University have deemed the Shiite sect just another school of thought, the Jafari school of thought, what are we doing just parroting our parents and their friends uninformed prejudices? There will always be disagreements in our religion, but if we cant treat each other right, can we treat non Muslims right? Do you see how badly this reflects on us as a society? To a non-Muslim were all the same anyways, so why let these differences in interpretation and understanding breed hate and animosity? The state of our Ummah is the state of our hearts. You look around and cant see one Muslim country with dignity thats given a platform on the world stage. Were weak and were divided, and its all our fault.
