I think its a valid question to ask why Muslims are [generally] - TopicsExpress

I think its a valid question to ask why Muslims are [generally] more agitated regarding Israeli assaults on Gaza and the Palestinian situation as a whole, than we have [generally] been about Syria, Afghanistan, Burma, CAR, Iraq, Libya, Nigeria, Darfur, ISIS, the children at the US border, climate change, police brutality, gun violence and so on. Its a valid question. But what agitates me is when folks presume our hearts can only care about one tragedy, our souls are only rocked by one catastrophe, that we should care more about issues that are closer to us in geography, race or ethnicity. Muslims should care about Palestine. Not because they are [generally] light-skinned Arabs. Not because theres an Arab League conspiracy to keep the conflict burning. But because our hearts can love infinitely. Our sense of justice should propel us to support our sisters and brothers in Palestine. The Holy Land is sacred to all of Abrahams children - including us. Jerusalem was the first qibla, our Beloved Prophet ascended to heaven from there and the majority of our prophets are from that land. Since we know that to kill one soul is equal to killing all of humanity, it is valid to ask: why dont we carea bout Syria, Afghanistan, Burma, CAR, Iraq, Libya, Darfur, Nigeria, ISIS, the children at the US border, climate change, police brutality, gun violence and so on. But Palestinians have souls, too, and are part of our humanity. Im supposed to be fasting from speech, but as its last 10 days, lets just say this is a digital dua. Ya Allah, ya Raheem, ya Rahman: as you are All Merciful, put mercy in our hearts, as you are All Loving, put love in our hearts, as you are The Creator, inspire us to love all your creation. Ameen.
