I think its funny how everyone thinks its easy to win in the NFL, that a great coach can magically win no matter what talent he has. But that thought process is wrong..Without a great team you can not win the Super Bowl. You need to either have a great offense/defense or a great quarterback....a coach doesnt win the game by himself, the players and staff he leads contributes the most. He obviously plays a vital role and his record matters but it is very subjective...if you coach long enough in the NFL youre going to have bad and good teams...yes, even Bill Walsh had terrible seasons......but If a coach has over 150 games under his belt and he has over a 55% winning record thats saying something...add a couple Super Bowl victories and you have the making of a great coach......only about 30 coaches have won a super bowl and theres been over 450 coaches in the history of the NFL..that means less then 7% of the head coaches in the history of the NFL have won the big game...those who have won more then 1 is even less....bottom line is that most NFL coaches will never win a super bowl and to win it says something. Many of you discredit Mike Shanahan but until he coached a terrible, terrible Washington team he was #18 on the most winningest head coach list (had over 60% winning percentage)...He had won 2 Super Bowls as a HC and 1 as an offensive coordinator......Im not saying that Mike should be our next head coach but you shouldnt be saying hes garbage or a terrible choice...look for other reasons to want someone else or not wanting him. Like his age, his leadership style, or a better match for our team..dont say hes terrible because that shows your lack of understanding of what it takes to win in the NFL and I hate that because Id like to believe we have the smartest fans in the NFL....
