I think its time for ex-spousal maintenance to be ended. In todays society, it is no longer necessary. It is based upon the principle that ones ex-spouse has the right to maintain the lifestyle to which they have become accustomed. I strongly disagree with this principle. Once a couple is divorced, neither should be forced to bear any responsibility for the others welfare, To clarify, Im not talking about child support payments. Those I have no issue with. Some of you, Im sure, will doubtless disagree with me, and to you I pose this question: Why should one ex-Spouse bear responsibility for the others continuing lifestyle? Why is that their problem?
