I think it’s a little crazy how many diets Andy did in that short period of time (and some of the extremes he went to) but I love the conclusion he came to: (Note: I took out the restricting calories bit because I believe its important to know how many calories you can eat to allow yourself to reach your goals. You shouldnt obsess over them but at the end of the day, weight loss/gain = calories in vs calories out.) “By restricting... certain food groups, it ends up leading to resentment and anxiety, and the only thing that seems to cure either of those is the very food you’re trying to avoid… losing weight shouldn’t be about changing your diet plan, it should be about changing your lifestyle.” Diets are quick fixes that only work in the short term because they focus on drastic measures like cutting out food groups. Once you ‘return to normal’, you’ll find your results coming undone quite quickly. And if you think you’re going to remain on that specific diet forever, think again. Special K for 2 out of 3 meals per day, every day? Only ingesting juice for the rest of your life? Eating 2 meals consisting of baby food and one normal one every day? Having a grapefruit after every meal, every day, for ever? Even the sanest person would go crazy after a while. These diets are not created for long-term results. They really are just quick (and often unhealthy and unbalanced) fixes. Instead, focus on changing your lifestyle and find something that you can stick to for the foreseeable future. Make lifestyle changes that are sustainable and focus on your long-term health and you won’t need to compromise on food sources and quality in order to reach your goals.
