I think most of us here in this group love our home county, our mountains and our families. And after watching the video Im linking below, I think we are lucky because of our location to have had more job opportunities thanks to industry in the tri-cities than just coal or lower paying jobs like fast food and big box stores. I personally was lucky to have great, hardworking and smart parents who never let their lack of a diploma make them feel small or unworthy. And they gave me the confidence and work ethic to grab onto that college scholarship and build the career Ive enjoyed for 30 years. The former teen football star in this video isnt so fortunate. It pulls at my heart, and I hope that since it was filmed, he has found a way to escape the poverty and his bad family situation. And I hope that people throughout our ancient mountains still have the gumption to pick themselves up and find a way to better their lives, with or without assistance that may never come. youtu.be/NBdu6uhrNno
