I think most talk of weight problems as some kind of important - TopicsExpress

I think most talk of weight problems as some kind of important social problem is problematic for the reasons in this article. We live in an extremely fatphobic society, and the way health is idealized is absolutely not simply neutral but a system that privileges some people unjustly over others. But in North America, all those people are still North Americans, and Iant help feeling fundamentally weird about the sheer amount of calories they consume. Probably more important than calories consumed by Americans is the amount of energy consumed by the American food system, while at the same time America imports food from all of the world. These imports, an expression of global contracts (tributes) which scale from fair but ruthless deals to disgusting/genocidal when the exporting society is experiencing a famine. While the main problem isnt that Americans eat too much, this eating is at some level at least partially an expression, even in the sense of symptomatic of how Americans have too much of the money.
