I think my daughter, Rachael Woodard is one of the strongest, bravest people I know. Rachael has recently realized that she is an atheist. This is a big deal because she has been afraid (to the point of phobic) of death her entire life. I know, I know, everyone fears death; it was different for Rach. Her earliest memory is me, post-surgical and in pain. She clearly remembers thinking I was dying, and that she had an idea what that meant. She was just a bit over 2. So, for her, death is a nightmare of pain and blood. Her spirituality was one of the few comforts she had, and that was a big part of her conversion - the realization that she accepted a lot of things because they were less frightening than the alternative. All of these atheist who insist that simple logic changed their minds and the most difficult part was coming out? Those folks might have to defend their beliefs, but they only had to face that ONCE. She is STILL afraid of death, but she is brave enough to consciously decide to start swimming towards the deep end. #ILoveMyDaughter
