I think people did not quite get the meaning of my post. I was not looking for peoples pity or even sympathy. I wanted to get the greater message out about how the world forgets about good people that do good work as soon as we cannot do that work. Soldiers that die or are disabled have numerous, if flawed, resources but people like me have almost no resources. Our whole system is flawed. We pay football players millions to play for a few hours but teachers, police, firefighters, and paramedics get paid little more than minimum wage. Paramedics get paid less per hour for working a 24 hour shift, sometimes as little as $8 or $9 dollars, while a paramedic on a 12 hour shift make much more per hour. When you call 911 at 3 am you get a medic that is 18 hours into his shift. Do you want to call one night and be told there is no paramedic to help you. If I was paid a fair wage for those 10 years of service I would have been able to save money for a time like this. The system needs change as much as the health care system or immigration system. Look around and ask yourself who will come if your family is ill or injured. Its not a football player.
