I think police have an obligation to protect their citizens regardless of how they behave because they signed up to do so ON THEIR OWN ACCORD and if they cannot fulfill that obligation because they are too negatively affected personally by the actions of the citizens they are supposed to protect then they shouldnt be police. If every police officer treated everyone like Detective McNulty from the Wire did police wouldnt be hated and citizens wouldnt have anymore excuses. Until you have a first hand experience getting pulled over and harassed for doing nothing save your nonsense!
