I think she meant the big chains that have to worry about shareholders (both book stores and movie theaters). I know in my heart, as does the author of this article, that Rachel Maddow was not intent on demeaning anybody, whether the movie theaters. or the independent bookstores. She was just making a point about courage. But, courage has never been expected in corporate culture because wariness of the delicate nature of share holder value always takes precedence.
