I think that the main factors influencing life in the next 20-30 years, baring a virus outbreak, asteroid impact or Martian attack are; 1) Over population -less food, water, resources, lower life expectancy; fewer jobs (poor people with no food/water have nothing to trade), more conflict and much more mass migration; 2) Global warming - less water, food and biodiversity, more disease, higher insurance prices, more damage to infrastructure, less money to fix it, more conflict, mass migration; 3) change from capitalism to feudalism - more money concentrated in fewer private hands means less trade. Less resources to trade including oil and private wealth means stalled economies; which means fewer jobs, less resources, lower life expectancy, crumbling infrastructure, less education, more ignorance, more conflict, less human rights (including womens rights), more slavery etc. (Feudalism) Basically look at how Europeans have behaved all the way up to just before the industrial revolution and then oil replaced slavery, increasing wealth created rights and education and laws that benefited the average person- you take away the resources through over population and you are left with the way people behaved before - but with a lot more hungry people hanging about. Seems that capitalism created more private wealth (helped by the consumption of oil), which lead to stability which lead to increase food production, longer lives, education, technology new medicine which lead to increased longer living population, which lead to depleted resources and more pollution which lead to global warming (more CO2) which now then leads to fewer resources and an hungry, ignorant population.
