I think that the one thing I wish people knew is that I see - TopicsExpress

I think that the one thing I wish people knew is that I see everything when I am preaching. My heart gets excited when I see the young person who is smiling because they got their college acceptance letter. My heart breaks when I see the married couple who had the big fight on the way to church that day. My heart is full when I look into the eyes of the person who was baptized that morning. My heart hurts when I see the cancer patient trying to focus on the sermon when it is obvious the pain is winning. I can tell you who believes in me and who is offended by me. So many times, my sermon evolves right there on the stage as the Holy Spirit shapes my heart to reflect the hearts of the hearers. So much of what this author says is true. I spend about 20 hours per week solely on sermon preparation. I know that I am not a typical preacher, whatever that is. But please know that I love my God, I love His people, and I am in love with this thing Jesus called the church. And every decision our leadership makes and every word that comes from the pulpit is first and foremost from our desire to see the kingdom of God rise up in peoples lives. Wow, thats more than I wanted to write :). But you know how long-winded preachers can get. I love Woodlawn, I love WCC, and I love what God is doing here.
