I think the gender wage gap myth is extremely harmful to feminism, because it basically distracts us from the real financial inequalities for women in the workforce. When we mistakenly think that the gap comes from women being paid less for the *same* job, we miss the big picture. We arent being paid less for the same work, were being paid less because women dis-proportionally hold lower-paying jobs and are less likely to get overtime hours. The take-away we should get from the wage gap isnt men and women need to be paid the same for the same work, it that there should be less barriers to women going into fields like engineering/financial management/etc. Come on ladies, we might get dealt a shit hand in life, but lets try to get that flush draw on the river instead of folding.
