I think the implication is that the oilers are ADD/Special Needs kids who lack the focus not only to be consistently competitive throughout the season but could not concentrate through a friendly game of golf and would in all likelihood end up wandering through the forest collecting turtles which they would inevitably mismanage to the point that said turtles died. To which their reply would be The worse our turtles die this year, the better our new turtles will be next year.
