I think the scientific community and their inability to connect - TopicsExpress

I think the scientific community and their inability to connect and translate their work is part of the problem. They have built an epistemological cage around themselves because their work is hard and difficult. The unaligned middle of the populace who understands science doesnt feel like defending scientists. Furthermore as Bruno Latour and other scholars of who study science attest many times scientists do make errors or have built in biases to their research which merely replicates status quo thinking...sadly modern US science has built a disdain for critical thinking....much related to the lack of gender, class and ethnic diversity in their ranks. Today, for instance, New York spends $19,000 per student per year on elementary and secondary education, whereas Tennessee spends less than half that amount ($8,200). States such as Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana each spend less than $3,000 per student.
