I think there are some very valid thoughts here that apply to missionaries who have been overseas while and those who are starting out. We are VERY blessed that the communities we have lived in have eased a lot of the heartache that can come with living in a new culture. However, it still means the world to us when people from home drop a little note to ask specific questions like these, to say they are praying, to ask how they can be involved in what we do, to encourage us or to just send funny messages over whatsapp. Years ago, I heard a missionary talk about the importance of people back home "holding the rope." I am so thankful for the friends who have held the other end of the rope for us so the transition here was a lot smoother. Drop a note to a missionary! It will brighten their day, I promise. :)
