I think this is Neoscona crucifera. A little colony of them lived in the shrubs just outside my anatomy classroom at Southwestern College a couple years ago (when I took this and quite a few other photos). This year I only saw a couple small individuals with webs in the evening there, and now none. Soon the college will likely tear down the building entirely (maybe) when the new science building is erected. Hopefully the spiders can survive somewhere on campus.
