I think this is a win-win-win-win-win scenario for Allen, - TopicsExpress

I think this is a win-win-win-win-win scenario for Allen, Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears, teams facing the Seattle Seahawks, and fans in general by able to see a great player play who can still play rather than retiring. It might be a win for Seattle to since they have some players that they want to extend contract with. Allen seems like a class act and he wanted to go to a possible contender that has a decent franchise QB in place right now for his final contract. I don’t think Minnesota was a viable option since they are in a rebuilding stage and is still looking for their franchise signal caller. I think his first choice was Seattle, but the money was not there for him. I think opposing teams are happy that Allen was not willing to give a discounted price to Seattle. I think he learned a lesson from what Seattle did to Winfield last year and then cut him. It was not known from the general public but Winfield wanted to come back to the Vikings later in the year. I’m glad that Allen was able to get signed to somewhat the type of money he was seeking rather than retiring. He was hoping to be making $10 million a year with a contender but the market was not there for him. I don’t think Chicago will win a super bowl in the near future but they do have a chance. Minnesota should be getting a compensatory pick. Let’s take a look at the compensatory picks that were added this year. The Baltimore Ravens had been feeling like an unwanted guest at the draft party with just 4 picks. Theyd traded both their 4th and 5th rounders to Jacksonville for OT Eugene Monroe, not to mention their 7th, which was shipped to the Colts for AQ Shipley. Fortunately the compensatory gods have smiled on GM Ozzie Newsome. The Ravens landed a 3rd, two 4ths and a 5th round pick. If anyone can take those mid-round selections and find starters, its Ozzie. Who else scored big?? The Steelers, Packers and Lions all were awarded a pair of picks in the 3rd through 5th rounds. The Vikings did not get one this year. Minnesota is looking for younger players who can improve on their 32nd place defense. Wootton is 26 years old and Allen is 32 of age. They will probably be getting a comp pick next year too Let’s be clear Wootton is not meant to be a replacement of Allen and get 13 sacks a year. They were horrible on stopping teams on third down. They are trying to change their defense from a Tampa 2 were the DE (Allen’s position) is the primary person who gets sacks to were the whole defensive line puts pressure on the QB. They are looking for players all along the defensive line rather than one player who can stop the run as well as can pass rush. Football is a business and the salaries of these two players are quite a bit different too. According to Rotoworld, the Bears agreed to terms with DE Jared Allen on a four-year, $32 contract. Aging pass rushers are playing a game of musical chairs in the NFC North. The Bears dumped Julius Peppers, who proceeded to sign with the Packers. Now the Bears scoop up Allen from the Vikings as they continue to remake their defensive line. Theres wisely only two years and $15.5 million of fully guaranteed money in this deal as Allen turns 32 next week and has shown rapidly declining quickness/stamina. Still, the Bears can now offer a solid rotation with Lamarr Houston, Willie Young and Israel Idonije off the edge. Allen had enough juice to net 11.5 sacks a year ago. While Vikings agreed to terms with DL Corey Wootton, formerly of the Bears, on a one-year, $1.5 million contract. Another $500,000 is available through incentives. Wootton is recovering from hip surgery, but expects to be 100 percent by July. Along with the signing of DT Tom Johnson, Woottons arrival likely means the Vikings are closing the door on free agent DT Kevin Williams. Capable of playing both inside and outside, Wootton logged 862 snaps for the Bears last season. 535 came at defensive tackle, with the rest coming at end. With the Vikes remaking their line, Wootton should see time at both spots in Minnesota, but more snaps are available at tackle. I know a few Bears fans who were disappointed that Peppers left their team. This might help their sorrows. I hope free agent DT Kevin Williams gets a nice contract and plays on too.
