I think too many Americans tend to fetishize revolution and most - TopicsExpress

I think too many Americans tend to fetishize revolution and most notably abroad. And I think what separates leftists from liberals in that regard is that leftists tend to critically analyze the aspects of that revolution than the simplistic liberal canon about the social media revolution especially in places like Egypt. When I think of the Egyptian Arab Spring, I see a genuine working class peoples uprising, but too often these movements can become co-opted by neoliberal and imperial forces. And what we really saw in Egypt was more of a changing of the guards charade than actual revolution as the military apparatus maintained(s) a dominant force in the nations economy and security, poverty has not been adequately addressed, womens rights and education has not been sufficiently addressed or tackled. Now it almost seems like the counterrevolution has won since El Sisi has reinforced the imperial, military hegemonic structure in Egyptian affairs, and the peoples movement gets lost in the foray.
