I think we are disappointed many times that more miracles do not take place; at least the ones we want to take place. Instead, God keeps His presence in the heart of the believer telling each one of us that they may be miracle enough. Yet, we persist in our desire by attending meetings that proclaim that miracles happen in their midst every day. My take on this is that faith, true faith, does not depend on these manifestations. It is a quiet spirit of trust that what is said by God has taken and will take place just as it is recorded in the Bible. Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Yet many believers want God to be like a GPS, telling us where to turn, what street to take, and how much distance is left before we reach our destination. Many are disappointed when He doesn’t, and a doubt takes hold that should not be there. Hebrews 11:6 says, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” What kind of reward does He give to these? A new car, a big house, win the lottery? I am afraid that many are so misguided in their interpretation of this that they fail the test of faith. I have never witnessed a verifiable miracle; I spent 22 years in Pentecostal churches, and at camp meetings. Yet, I have witnessed a different kind than these folks seek every gathering. I have seen lives changed, hearts healed of sins, and new directions pursued by many who have experienced the mercy of Christ. I have seen families healed of emotional trauma, and most of all, a new birth in those who hit rock bottom. If Jesus does not do another thing “miraculous” in my life, what He has done already is enough.
