I think we should all congratulate Dennison Joseph on his win last night. Let’s face it, while “Time for Change” is a well written song but not as strong as the songs from previous years, Dice did in fact outperform everybody in both rounds. The Judges score sheet has Melody, Presentation, Rendition etc. There is no “give somebody else a chance” section on the judges sheet. Many people are claiming to be disappointed, but disappointed in what? If you believe that Dice outperformed the others, then why should someone else win the crown just because you feel they needed “a chance”? The competition is not judged on chance. It is judged on what happens on the night and that was re-confirmed last night. I also noticed that persons are talking a lot about vindication and the “assassins”. Obviously the assassins are the 3 hosts of Calypso Talk program on Q95. 3 citizens of Dominica, entitled to their opinion, entitled to freedom of speech and expression are being referred to as assassins for daring to criticize what they view as weak areas in the writing of certain songs in the competition. So while we had 3 persons on a program giving their view, we saw thousands cheering Dice on, why should all this emphasis he placed on the 3 persons? It’s almost like a dictatorial business where no man no woman should be against anything written. Let’s be real people. Everybody cannot support everybody. I personally believed that the second song of Hunter did not have a conclusion. It touched several issues, but no climax…no conclusion. Your brother called to tell you several things, but what did he tell you before you hang up the phone? This is where Dice stood out. Problems in Dominica were identified, and then the conclusion, it is time for Change. So now that I have identified the weakness of Hunter’s second song, should the hunter fans refer to me as an “assassin”? Should close friends of Hunter now post status up every day about good over evil and all that rubbish? I don’t understand how Web placed, should I be viewed as an assassin or evil in the eyes of Webb’s fans? Again, let us congratulate Dice on his big win last night. A well-deserved crown based on the performances last night. I will also note here, that the king himself reacted to those criticisms much better than some people who support him. So while certain people are all over facebook raising their pressure over people not liking this or that about Dice song, Dice himself welcomed the criticism and was not deterred by it, why?...because like Sandy said in a song written by the Dices writer years ago… “that’s life”. Telling it like it as, as usual.
