I think we should be careful not to over react to the shooting in Ottawa. The lone gunman scenario is all too common. This time we can label him as a terrorist. More often he is a former co-worker or abusive ex. We didnt ban working or dating. We didnt authorize the police to monitor everyone who works or is in a relationship. Lets not destroy our country with security measures that limit our freedoms. Lets not ban visits to Parliament Hill. Lets not arm the police like the army. Heavily armed people wandering about looking for trouble isnt going to make us safer. What could make us safer is early intervention is troubled youth. Other countries have made strides in identifying radicalized youth and helping them integrate back into society, diffusing the bomb. Canada seems to identify them and then do nothing to help because that goes against the ideology of the sitting government.
