I think we should strongly consider directing a petition and letter-writing campaign further up the chain to the IHM Leadership, the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Detroit (Archbishop Allen Vigneron) and the Pope. Although the Archdiocese of Detroit does not have direct control over Marian employment decisions (as far as I am aware), I am under the impression that the morality clause as it is currently written is present in the Marian contract as a requirement of the Archdiocese of Detroit for Marian to have the designation as a Catholic school. I am also under the impression (based on conversation with a reliable source) that Marian administrations decision to terminate Ms. Webb may have been in part motivated by concern that if she continued to be employed at Marian, the Archdiocese of Detroit would have the authority to declare that Marian was no longer a Catholic school, and potentially to declare the IHMs no longer a Catholic order. I am very hesitant to believe that Sr. Lenore was acting unilaterally here. Things will only change with grassroots efforts, but we need to start directing the call for change higher.
